Some of my experiences of my treks :-
Trek 1 :- EVEREST BASE CAMP [EBC] !!! (May 2003)
Preparation : It all started in Jan'03 When my dad asked my mom and me whether we should
trek to EBC ? At first my mom wasn't reluctant with my dad's decision, but
agreed with it.
So we all (group of three mom, dad and me!) started building our stamina.
On every Saturday we used to go to Parvati (a small hill in Pune) and on Sundays to
Sinhagad.
This all lasted for about the third week of aprli'03. Then started our air and rail
bookings. So we were ready with all the preparation, ready to trek EBC !
The Travel : On 3rd of May'03 we headed with our haversacks to Pune station to catch
Deccan Queen to Dadar Station. The train arrived at half past eleven to Dadar. We then
took a taxi to Bombay international airport and flew to Kathmandu (capital of Nepal).
We then got information that there is a place called Lukla on the way to EBC where we
can fly to.
Buying the tickets was a piece of cake for us. On 5th May'03 we reached Lukla
and our trek started!!!
The Trek : It was all a 15 dayy trek........
Day 1 : From Lukla To Pheriche [5th May].From Kathmandu we reached Lukla at about 0930 Hrs. We then we immediatly headed to
Phakding, a small village about 15 to 17 kms. away from Lukla.
Day 2: From Phakding to Namche Bazar (NB) [6th may].
We three got up at 0600 Hrs., did our morning chores and started to trek to Namche Bazar.
The pathway to NB was a long wayof about only 12 kms., but it took us 6 hrs to reach NB as
the climb was somewhat steep. NB had all the facilities of lodging and boarding,
communication. There were restaurents which served Pizzas !
The height of NB was abotu 13,500 ft., so we decided to rest for a day and aclamatise
with the height.
Day 3 : NB [7th may].We did site seeing. We saw one old temple. One of old community bath tub.
Day 4 : NB to Tangboche [8th May].
The day dawned for us at 5 'o' clock. It took us 6 to start for Tangboche. Now the path was broad enough
for two persons to walk together. It was altogether 7 kms downhill and 8 to 9 kms uphill which took us
9 hrs to pass through. Finally at 3 pm we were at Tangboche. Tired as we were rested for 3 hrs with a
Tired three, we slept at 8 pm !
Day 5 : Tangboche to Pheriche [9th may].
We got up early at 6 am, got ready for Pheriche !
We here hired a porter for carrying out haversacks.
